The Light

Everyone’s here, Jenny, her mother, even the Vicar has put in an appearance. And isn’t that Uncle George, stood at the back, close to the door? Hell, it must be serious. Jenny’s by my side. The rest,  gathered at the end of my bed, reverential whispers, solemn faces. I wonder if anyone else can see that bright light streaming through the window, making the room glow? Probably not. I’ve got a feeling it’s meant for my eyes only. A sign that I’m expected some place else. I take a final look at them all as I step towards that light.
