Jack and Jill

Jack and Jill used to climb these steps every day collecting water from the stream. Jack was all for having water piped straight to the house, just like their neighbours but Jill wouldn’t hear of it.

Story is Jack was on the verge of leaving her and moving in with Betsy with all her modern water conveniences when he fell.

Some say it was an accident, others are not so sure. Either way, it left Jack more than a little confused.

Nowadays he carries his pail down them steps without the slightest complaint.

As for poor Betsy, she’s long forgotten.

Jill sorted him out all right. The image of your confused Jack meekly carrying the bucket “down them steps” really made me laugh. Neat, witty, satisfying story, Mike. I reckon Jill drowned her rival in Betsy’s all modern conveniences bath.
