Virtual Writers Group Photo Prompt

Posted by

For today’s session of the Virtual Writers Group I would like to set out a prompt to encourage you to get writing.

The challenge is to write a 100-word story inspired by this photo.

Who is she? Who is she telling to be quiet? Why? Where is she from? I leave you to come up with your own answers.

Add your story in the comments section below. I look forward to reading them.

  1. Here’s what I came up with…

Samuel watched as she drifted back through the crack in his bedroom wall.
“I’ll be back soon, sweetheart,” she whispered, “But for now you must keep our secret.”
He was still staring at the wall when the door opened.
“Good morning, Mr Jones, how are you today? Not still worried about that crack in your wall are you? I’ve spoken to the caretaker and he’s promised me he’ll pop along later today and have a look at it. Now, just roll your sleeve up, there’s a good chap. That’s it. Soon have you feeling much better. This won’t hurt. Promise”

  2. The whisper woman comes every night, peering from my bedroom ceiling. Her voice falls onto my ears like silk daggers, quietly cutting into my mind with words never meant to be spoken.

Each word rushes through my head, blowing away all thought. I am clear of myself, a vassal for her. Very few bits of me remain, like tattered flesh of a hollowed gourd.

Please don’t cry for me. There soon will be no me to cry for. Save those tears for yourself, as you wait to see her looking down from your ceiling, making you a home for whispers.

    1. What a great piece of writing Rebekah! I particularly like the second line, “Her voice falls onto my ears like silk daggers, quietly cutting into my mind with words never meant to be spoken.” The thought of those silk daggers cutting into the mind – scary.
Then you left us with frightening ending/warning – she’s coming to our house!
I hope to see more of your stories on the Virtual Writers Group.
      Thanks for joining in.
